Georgian Speaker meets President of Turkmenistan

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, held a meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow.

During the meeting, they underscored the productive cooperation between the two countries, both bilaterally and within international organizations, highlighting the enduring friendly relations. Special attention was given to the significance of trade, economic, and transport-logistics cooperation, as well as the advancement of joint regional projects.

Shalva Papuashvili expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the decision to unveil the monument of Shota Rustaveli in Ashgabat, emphasizing its role in further strengthening the bonds between the two peoples. In turn, Serdar Berdimuhamedow reiterated unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Speaker of the Parliament held a meeting withRashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Discussions encompassed current areas of cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan. They highlighted achievements and future prospects for partnership development across various sectors including trade, economy, parliamentary affairs, transportation, energy, tourism, and culture.
Special attention was directed towards cooperation within international transport-transit corridors, notably the "Lapis-Lazuli" and "Black Sea - Caspian Sea" transport routes. Additionally, the discussion touched upon the Black Sea submarine cable project, where Georgia is expected to play a pivotal strategic role according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs

In 2023, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov appointed Dovletmyrat Seitmamedov Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Georgia.
