May 17 - a public holiday.
May 17 - The Day of Family Sanctity and Respect for Parents, by decision of the government, became a public holiday.
The Day of Family Sanctity and Respect for Parents was founded in Georgia after 2013 at the initiative of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The head of government also celebrated Family Day. "Of course, protecting the identity of our country is the responsibility of each of us. There are forces that are trying to artificially split our society. We are a Christian country, and the main Christian value is love between people. There are forces that are artificially trying to replace love between us with hatred. We must to do everything so that our country, each of our citizens unite around love. Unity around love is something that each of us should take care of,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, celebrating this day with family members.
The celebration of the Day of Family Sanctity and Respect for Parents took place throughout Georgia in the format of processions.
Yulia Klyuchnikova, a poet, musician, guide and singer in the choir of the Alexander Nevsky Church, took part in the procession, which began at the Kashveti Temple and ended at the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
"This is the third time I am participating in this action. The year before last there were much fewer people. Last year there were more, but many times less than this time. There are no official data, but more than 10 thousand people took part in the action. Family Sanctity Day and respect for parents was established by Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia the Second in 2014,” said Yulia Klyuchnikova, who blogs under the pseudonym Yuliko Lomidze.
