The best athletes of 2023 in non-Olympic sports were awarded in Tbilisi.
The award ceremony took place at an evening dedicated to the birthday of JAKO, the only sports media association.
President of the Association of Sports Journalists of Georgia Mikheil Abayshvili said that the idea of awarding the best athletes of the year in non-Olympic sports belongs to the famous Georgian commentator, sports journalist Jamlet Khukhashvili, who also became the founder of the first and only sports radio in Georgia.
Abayshvili said that the national federations of football, basketball and rugby and the Association of Sports Journalists of Georgia have drawn up a joint memorandum to support JAKO sports radio. “We are going to support the oldest and most beloved sports newspaper, Lelo, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.”
The widow of D. Khukhashvili, editor of sports broadcasts at JAKO, Eva Babalashvili, thanked everyone who organized such a large-scale event.
