Italian creativity celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Republic in Tbilisi
The Italian national holiday marking the 180th anniversary of the Republic was celebrated on a large scale at the Zurab Tsereteli
Museum of Contemporary Art in Tbilisi, organized by the Italian Embassy in Georgia. In the presence of numerous representatives from various Georgian institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, and the Italian community in the country, as well as many prominent figures from the economic, cultural, academic, and civil society sectors, Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono emphasized in his speech the strong bond that unites Italy and Georgia.
Today, Italy celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, a Republic founded on freedom, democracy, peace, work, and equality—principles enshrined in our Constitution,” said D’Antuono, “These are the fundamental values that inspire relations between Italy and Georgia, united by a historically deep bond characterized by strong cultural, diplomatic, and economic exchanges,” the diplomat added. The National Day celebration also served as a showcase for the Italian way of life, which is always guided by Italian creativity. The packed Italian Republic Day celebration offered guests a veritable mosaic of Italian excellence. The national anthems were sung by Nino Surguladze, a famous mezzo-soprano and Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy. An exhibition titled “Svaneti - Time and Space Relativity Play. Vittorio Sella – Nika Lebanidze” was also organized, paying tribute to the Biella-born photographer and mountaineer Vittorio Sella, who left behind an extraordinary photographic record of 19th-century northern Georgia. The exhibition, curated by the renowned Georgian mountaineer and photographer Nika Lebanidze, who more than 130 years later undertook the same itinerary as Sella, to explore whether and how the mountains and landscapes have changed over time, will remain open to the public until July 20, 2026. Additionally, an exhibition of Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Alfa Romeo cars—the pride of the Italian automotive industry; Italian food and wine excellence, ranging from Prosecco, Aperol, and the finest Italian wines to culinary delicacies to delight guests’ palates, including special dishes prepared by Italian chef Angelo Manigrasso, fully dedicated to the flavors of Puglia (following the success of the two editions of the promotional project for the Italian regions of Campania and Emilia-Romagna, conceived and organized by the Embassy, this year a series of events will be dedicated to the region of Puglia). And, as the evening culminates, the Tbilisi Tower will be illuminated in green, white, and red: the colors of the Italian flag.
